Slay the Spire 2
First Big Balance Patch Makes Infinites Harder

📅 March 28, 2026✍️ PoGamer StaffPATCH LIVE

Mega Crit’s Slay the Spire 2 has received its first major balance patch since launching in Early Access on March 6 — and the headline change is clear: infinite combos are being reined in. The patch also introduces a new “Phobia Mode” accessibility feature.

Early Access status: Slay the Spire 2 launched with 4-player co-op on day one. Mega Crit estimates the full 1.0 release is roughly 1–2 years away, but the team is actively patching throughout Early Access.

Key Patch Changes

Infinite combos nerfed — several card synergies that enabled game-breaking loops have been adjusted to be “harder to achieve”
Phobia Mode added — new accessibility toggle for players sensitive to certain visual content
General balance pass — multiple card cost and damage value tweaks across all classes
Bug fixes — several co-op desync issues addressed

Community Reaction

The nerf to infinites has split the community. Dedicated players who built decks around loop strategies are frustrated, while the broader player base welcomes more balanced endgame runs. Mega Crit has historically been receptive to community feedback during Early Access — the original STS went through similar growing pains before its polished 1.0 release.

⚡ POGAMER VERDICT

Good patch overall. Infinites were making endgame feel solved rather than strategic. The Phobia Mode addition shows Mega Crit is thinking about accessibility from day one. If you haven’t tried STS2 yet, now is a great time to jump in.
